Hawaii...Maui... What a sad, sad time for our island friends in Maui. Watching the videos and the reporting from the island has been heartwrenching. Maui is a special, special place. Really, it's "Heaven on Earth" as my dad so eloquently stated when we visited there in 2016. The historic feel of the little beach town was palpable. The smell of ocean and "old building" along with the blooms of all of the flowers is a scent unique to Maui.
Our family had a multi-generational trip with Peter and I, four of our kids, my Mom & Dad, and our granddaughter. That is a trip I will NEVER forget. Now, it has even more meaning, as we saw a Lahaina that futures generations will not be able to see. We saw it all together.
We took pictures under the Banyan tree in the central park, we walked the quaint shops of the beachside town, we went to a Luau together, we hunted for water falls, and we swam and snorkled. Such sweet memories.
It won't be the same. It can't be the same. We pray for the residents of the island, the helpers, the angels, the travelers, the medical professionals, the search & rescue people and animals. We pray that they all find peace and a sense of hope in the midst of what must be utterly overwhelming.
